Keep an eye out for these vertigo symptoms
An imbalance in the inner ear, also known as the “vestibular system,” is the most common cause of vertigo. By sending signals about your movement to your brain, your vestibular system helps you maintain your balance and center of gravity. If this system is damaged or malfunctioning, the impulses needed to keep you balanced are not delivered to your brain.
Vertigo is a natural reaction that occurs when your body’s equilibrium is disrupted. This is difficult to manage because it interferes with your daily routine and way of life. Even when you are sitting, vertigo causes you to feel as if you are “rocking” or “spinning.”
Keep an eye out for the following symptoms:
- Vomiting and nausea
- Dual vision
- Sweating
- Abnormal eye movements
- Weakness in the arms and legs
- Vision and communication difficulties
- Inability to concentrate or maintain alertness
If you recognize these vertigo symptoms, you should consult a Spring Creek, Carlin, Elko, NV and Elko Spine and Rehabilitation physical therapist. Please click here to schedule an appointment with First Choice Physical Therapy.
What’s causing my vertigo? How can I find vertigo relief?
A variety of factors can contribute to vertigo, including:
Vertigo with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
BPPV is frequently associated with dizziness. It occurs when tiny calcium crystals in your ears become dislodged and migrate to places they should not be. When lying down, this can cause vertigo and inner-ear discomfort.
Meniere’s syndrome
This disease occurs when fluid accumulates in your ear(s). This is distinguished by “ringing” in the ears and brief bouts of extreme dizziness that can last for hours. There is also the possibility of temporary hearing loss.
Stroke
A stroke affects how the entire body moves. You may experience long-lasting vertigo waves if you have recently had a stroke.
Vestibular neuropathy
This is an infection of the inner ear that can cause vertigo.
Migraines
A migraine can cause vertigo and sometimes light or sound sensitivity by affecting the vestibular system. Your vision may also deteriorate.
